About
Endura
Legal Technology
Why Endura Exists
Artificial intelligence and generative AI are now ubiquitous in discussions about the future of legal practice. Much of that discussion presents these technologies as either transformative saviours of the profession or existential threats to it. In practice, the reality for many lawyers—particularly those in small firms and sole practice—is far more complex.
Most legal technology solutions, commentary, and implementation guidance are designed with large firms in mind: firms with dedicated IT teams, innovation budgets, and institutional capacity to absorb risk. Small practices operate under very different constraints. They face tighter budgets, limited time, direct professional responsibility exposure, and fewer opportunities to experiment with unproven tools.
Endura Legal Technology Consulting exists to address that gap. The consultancy focuses on helping small firms and sole practitioners make informed, practical decisions about AI and generative AI—decisions that reflect their real-world obligations, resources, and practice contexts, rather than abstract promises or vendor-driven narratives.
About the Principal Consultant
Endura is led by Dr Paul Burgess, a legal academic and practitioner specialising in legal technology, AI, and the rule of law. Paul brings a rare combination of practical legal experience, deep technical understanding, and regulatory awareness to questions of technology adoption in legal practice.
Before entering academia, Paul worked in small legal practice and understands first-hand the operational, financial, and professional pressures faced by sole practitioners and small firms. That experience directly informs Endura’s approach: advice is grounded in how legal work is actually done, not how it is assumed to operate in large institutional settings.
Paul is currently a Senior Lecturer at Monash University Faculty of Law, he leads the Technology and AI Legal Education Research Lab, and is co-director of Monash’s Digital Law Group. He has led and collaborated on multiple research projects examining the design, evaluation, and governance of AI-enabled legal systems, including projects with community legal organisations and public-interest partners and frequently provides professional training with the Law Institute of Victoria.
Through Endura, Paul provides independent, non-vendor advice that bridges legal practice, technology, and professional responsibility—helping practitioners adopt tools that genuinely support their work, rather than complicate or compromise it.
